During this special time, the Chinese often eat traditional food including the famous Dumpling or Post Sticker dish.  Dumplings are a common staple of food in China; it has been passed down for  generations and over thousands of years. Dumplings also represent luck in China, which is why many families make this special dish before travel.  In China there is a saying: "Jiao Zi Jiu Jiu, Que Chi  Que You", roughly translated meaning: eat dumplings with liquor; your  life will be full of fortune.  This is why dumplings are usually served during New Year celebrations, because it symbolizes best wishes and great fortune for the upcoming year.

Even after thousands of years, dumplings are still one of the most  popular foods in China, People have perfected the ways of making them. Dumplings could have endless kinds of fillings, including mixtures of  chicken, fish, seafood, eggs, beef and vegetables etc. During the New Year, people sometimes hide a coin, candy, date, or chestnut in one or two dumplings.
